RAIN

Unbeckoned, one stormy night,
Lightening flashes and the thunder roars,
The darkness; a beautiful sight.
Relentless and unforgiving, the clouds pour
The cold water: the torrid rain
Not to be seen but heard so well
As raindrops patter on the windowpane
And whisper softly a bedtime tale.
Leaden eyelids and an overpowering urge
To float away and linger around,
To get drenched and to purge
The mind of its sins; those to be found.
Lost, on one stormy night,

Sleep beckons and dreams smile bright.

THAT RAIN....

An afternoon it was.
Children played.
Somewhere, somehow
You heard a distant rumble.
Like an incoherent note,
Now getting louder.

Winds gushing ,
Twigs flying by.
The children shrieked, shrieked with joy.
What a riot!

Mother rushed out
To collect clothes and pickle jars.
And then it came.
A drop here and a drop there.
Then gathering momentum.
Pelting away.
Rain came.

Soothing rain, cleansing rain, incessant rain.

Rain, rain!!

The smell of damp earth, seeping through your blood.
A heady mixture, brewing inside.
Something dying and something taking root.
An emptiness and a longing.

You stood aloof.

Drip, drip, drip......
The rain sang along.
